What is the technique?

The Alexander Technique is a three stage method:
First, it helps you gain a greater awareness of your body and how you are using it.

Second, it gives you the tools to evaluate whether you're using you body in a helpful or harmful manner.

Thirdly, it gives you the tools to use your body in a new, free, integrated fashion.

Testimonials

“After engaging in a session with Jared, I would feel relaxed and aligned. I became mentally and physically positive that I could over come any physical disability and regain my performing career. He was great in explaining the practice and its benefits. While the Alexander Technique has added to my daily life, it was especially comforting that Jared is an accomplished musician. He understands the significance of proper alignment to live a pain free daily and musical life. Working with Jared has been a positive affect on my life and performing.”

What is good use?

Alexander Technique teachers employ the word "use" to signify the manner in which one is using her body. Good use can be described as the body working as an integrated whole, with freedom of movement and breathing.

Various habits can create unneccesasary tension that prevents one from using one's body in the best possible manner. An Alexander Technique teacher aims to help a student identify these habits and, though gentle hands on work, promote new habits for better use.

An average lesson

“I'm a testimonial. Click to edit me and add text that says something nice about you and your services. Let your customers review you and tell their friends how great you are.”

TBD

An average lesson lasts about 45 minutes. Lessons are one-on-one with a teacher who uses gentle hands on techniques to help guide a student to new ways of using one's body.

There are usually two phases to a lesson. One phase involves chair work. Chair work is used as a means to work on use stationary and in movement. And getting in and out of a chair is something people do on a daily basis, so cultivating good use in a chair in a lesson builds a foundation to apply the use to one's everday life.

The other phase is lying down work. In this phase a student lies on a table while at teacher gentley encourages a student to release excess tension.
