About Jared

My journey with the Alexander Technique began when I was studying double bass as an undergraduate at Slippery Rock University. I had rehearsals almost everyday for various ensembles, was gigging outside of school, and also was practicing a few hours per day for my private studies. I eventually developed tendonitis in my left wrist. I visited various doctors, but I was told to just stop doing what I did wrong to cause the pain. Unfortunately, my  technique looked good to my teacher, so I had no idea what caused the problem to begin with!

I was fortunate that one of my professors at SRU was an Alexander Technique teacher. While recovering, I was able to take a semester of Alexander Technique lessons. It was there I learned of my general poor posture as well as massive amounts of tension in my shoulders which most likely contributed to my tendonitis. I also learned the basics of the technique that I continue to use everyday. The Alexander Technique contributed the most to my recovery, and because of it, I am an active bass player to this day.

After completing my undergraduate degree I moved to New York to pursue a masters in Jazz History. While there, I enrolled in Alexander Technique New York City's teacher training course. The teacher training course greatly improved my awareness and use of my body. In 2013 completed my three year teacher training course at ATNYC lead by John Nichols and Nanette Walsh. I taught briefly in New York City, and have now moved my teaching practice to the greater Pittsburgh area.
I look forward to helping as many people as I can with the technique.
